can anyone tell me WHAT offset is & whats the best offset for offroad wheels and off of what? i know i was offered spacers(which is apperciated) but not keen on them for the offroading I do.

You only really need negative offset (out from the vehicle) if you run large tyres, With larger tyres and not enough offset they can catch before the vehicle achieves it's full lock making it's turning circle crap.

so what about the back wheels so they don't clout the arches as much?

I got lucky with a random set of 7x15 wheels off eBay for £20 inc

Turns out they are steel wheels off an import hilux surf with neg 15 offset

The rim was 4.5" from the chassis at the back and stuck out a half inch from the wing, spot on for articulation and lock

I think I was using something like 20-25mm on the back on standard rims as I wanted to run proper quality spacers not just shim style.

I am running 31/10.50/15's on a 8x15" rim with zero off-set, I had to cut the end of the sill and re-weld, under guard plastic was cut plus mod the front bumper bracket. Front torsion bars were wound up to get rid of the years of droop to level the vehicle. Unseazing and adjusting the torsion bars is good fun too.
