They don't really hide it. Front wings bubble up around their edge, above the plastic trim and sills rot out at the rear end. You can easily see the rear seatbelt mounting in the rear wheelarch.
I'd say they've got a pretty good rust record compared to some, but when they go, they really do seem to go. Mine is a 1996 pre-facelift and is amazingly solid bar the sills, which have just been welded up (roughly £30 a side). I can't really do photos of where they rust as mine now has none!
I do tend to jetwash it after every off road trip, and have recently coated the chassis in Bilt Hamber's Dynax UB anti-corrosion wax.
