I had the ol'landrovers & defender etc & they bust my wallet & back, so i got a maverick 2.7 tdi, its comfy & im well impressed with the 4x4 system, i have a farm & never got stuck in the poo, yet !! even pulling a 3.5 t trailer !! (landrover dear o'dear ..never again !!) knock, rattle, crunch...bang !! :lol

Anyhow the Disco 200tdi wasnt bad MPG about 26+ ish , the defender 300tdi a sad 22 MPG.......
But hey the mavrick 30-32mpg, i run 235/75x15 tyres & keep her well serviced, she runs on old cooking oil /mix , derv, bio the lot & no problems..impressed , not half :clap . what do you get in the terrano/maverick?? MPG

im getting 22/23 around town and only short runs, not done a run as yet so cant say. :thumbs

last time i worked it all out, 31mpg 2.7 TDi LWB, with kids and junk in most of the time..

so if clean and empty i think i could PUSH for 33 to 34 MPG, but it would be hard work i think

I'm getting about 25-27mpg but alot of my trips are very short, I drive the T2 a bit hard at times:augie& with my roofrack & spotlights fitted i've got the aero dynamics of a house:augie:augie

yes but whats the T2's aero dynamics like?? :lol:lol:lol

sounds good and welcome.

i'd watch that trailer with the plod, a t2 is rated at 2800kg
officially you'd need a manual patrol to go 3500kg.

in reality suspect could tow more still....

Hi, last 4 tank top ups 32,32,28,28mpg first two long motorway runs other two running about
over kirkstone pass, shap fell, round and about mostly B roads....regards..bri

Pulling my caravan returns around 19-20, short solo runs 23-26. Don't know about long solo runs as I haven't done one yet.

mpg

in my tdi if i took it steady would get around 27-30 mpg.
in my 2.4 petrol i get around 25-28mpg.

Driving 'robustly' in the old 160k-miler, a steady 23 mpg, improving to 25.5mpg after i fitted the K&N induction kit at about 40k miles. never bettered that in all-round driving - its an auto box by the way.

The newly-acquired 60k-miler (manual) does 25 mpg even after servicing, so plan to fit an induction kit and see what happens...I suspect the TDs fare slightly better than the TDi does - its the usual story, if you've got a bit more oomph most people tend to use it (and then some) rather than accrue the benefits of frugal driving (thats what fruges do I believe?).

Am I right in thinking that places like Diesel Bob don't rate the TDi as having much tuning potential compared to the TD? If they do, is there anywhere equivalent either Wales dfirection or south of the Waford Gap?

With the right knowledge and fettlement, the TD with a decent intercooler fitted will make a solid 150bhp and 320lbs talks, almost for no monies (if you are handy with spanners)

The Tdi, when running spot on with a chip / remap will make the same, but cost you more to get there.

With both, the turbo is the limiting factor after ~150bhp.

Tim.
