hi guys i have a spaure box on my rear axle it has 3 pipes coming out of it 1 goes to the front of the truck the other 2 go to each wheel cylinder.

can this be bleed when doing the brake bleed ?

Brake compensator :)
It needs bleeding when doing your brakes mate, but be careful as the old nipple has been ignored for ages most likely

1

if this is not bleed would this make my brakes shite ?

my truck seems to have all the braking towards the front

It could be or more like the adjuster doesnt any more :lol
Especially noticeable with no weight in the back. There's a lever attached to it with a big old spring on it. Make sure that works and moves ok

.

just been doing a search on this compensator thingy ive lefted mey truck aswell could it need adjusting ?

if so how ?

plenty of wd40 by the look of things ? :lol

That'll be it. Lifted suspension will effectively mean it thinks there's no weight in the back at all and so all the braking happens up front. You'll need to bend the arm back a bit so it's back to normal :thumb2

.

when you say bend the arm back is it obvious when looking at it ?

do you bend it towards the front or rear of the truck ?

er , bend it toward the valve. You've moved the axle further from the body so you need to bend the arm back toward the axle:thumbs

can it be dispensed with, I mean older cars didn't have them.

illy

Yes you can bin it but then you'd loose the benefit of automatic variable brake bias.
You could fit a mechanical bias valve if you want to vary it yourself.:thumbs

The car was built with one, the car can take 600 kg in the rear, so the brakes are applied more at the rear with the heavier weight, thus maintaining your braking distance, without this, it will take much longer to stop.

Try telling your insurance company that you removed it, when you are filling in your claim form after rear ending another vehicle....:doh

I think this device is overlooked when doing a suspension lift, ie bigger springs, it doesn't affect a body lift though, as the components are on the chassis and rear axle only..

I've just checked mine... easy when in a warm dry garage,,,,:thumb2

Yes but more likely the Automatic brake adjusters that don't work.
If you put on the hand brake 1 click, you may find the brakes are far better, if so, this is a clear indication that the rear adjusters are in need of adjustment. Plenty of threads on this.... 30- 45 min job, after you have raised the rear axle and placed on 2 axle stands. Do both sides together, as the LSD will affect the drag on the hand brake.

I don't do great mileage, and I adjust them twice a year, and certainly a week before the MOT....:thumb2

I don't think in normal driving in a straight line on normal roads that I have ever caused the rear end to loose traction under heavy braking. The front YES>>>> very often the nearside front.
I don't have ABS either.... So it's a case of brakes off then on again manually .. ie pumping the brakes.....
