had a tinker in the engine bay today, and went to look at the EGR. Removed the intercooler and found it full of oil again (already cleaned it once a while back). I didnt remove the EGR, just added a blockage to the pipe for now as I wanted to know what the oily intercooler means?

Depends how much oil if its a few drips then its normal if it gushes out it is a problem with turbo.I think you would already know if you had a problem as you would be filling it with oil and watching it come out of the exhaust as smoke:lol

Yeah as cnc said, could be turbo, mine does the sane this as the turbo is buggered

how can yours do the same you wally, you dont have an intercooler?!

anyway, no, its not gushing out, or even dripping to be honest! I havent had to top up the oil since i bought the car, and I have just done its first oil change in probably a very long time (and I will be repeating the process after a few more miles to flush out the system)

ok cool, if its nowt to worry about, ill leave it be!

cheers chaps!

Make sure you have the right grade of oil in there, 10/40 or better still 15/40 mineral oil, thinner oils and fully synthetic oils will do this a lot :thumb2

yup, i got 14/40 mineral oil in there now, although i will be changing it again in a few weeks i think, as it needs a bit of a flush out.

I agree, leave it be, you could clean out the intercooler as the oil in there has probably built up over a very long time. But TBH every T2 intercooler I have seen has been a bit oily, and as you're not using a great quantity of oil for top ups . . . :nenau

aye all very true, ill not be worrying about it then, i just wanted to check :thumbs

no,:doh mine had a cast pipe in place of the inter cooler that yours has, the pipe is full of oil:rolleyes:

I had this. I would have your intercooler tested for leaks, replace all boost hoses and clips for jubilees.

Remove throttle valve butterfly, clean thoroughly and fill holes with chemical metal. reseal throttle housing seat gasket as rubber rings are prone to being shite, leave ring in place but use some copper rtv on outer side of gasket face.

remove egr completely and blank both sides with 4mm plate sealed with copper rtv.

Not until I did all this did the smoke stop completely. Now its like a brand new truck. starts first time, no smoke whatsoever, crisp clean on and off throttle.

Also replace inlet manifiold gasket, got my for £10 delivered from here:

http://www.kimbercarparts.co.uk/Single-Part.aspx?GID=RNZ^71-52759-10^15341^EGKS-EN^MANG

It was a thick fiberous one that compressed, far supperior to the plastic nissan one that had gone in 2 places

Doing the egr delete, sorting throttle valve, and inlet manifold gasket will cost about £30 and will take about 3 hours.

I would do all this as a rule to a td27.

Also, My inlet manifold had a 5mm thick waxy crust of oil/carbon and shite all through it, was vile like bloody treacle, so give that a clean too.

This was from the Egr spewing its crap into my lovely engine for 140k :/

Wow, thas a lot to go through so I think I'll make a start. I'll make sure I get two egr banking pates, are they both the same dimensions?

If it's cheap, let me know where you get them:)

Yes. U could make them yourself if u have vice and a decent grinder with cutting disk.

Easy to do egr and inlet manifold gasket together, then u can soak all the shit out your manifold over night in petrol etc.

Not read it all but have you binned the oil blow by thingy ? That's the culprit
