Weird dip stick reading

This has gone on for a while now bit the dipstick isn't giving a clear reading. the flat readout part on the dip stick is covered in oil no matter how many time I check it. I know the engine isn't full to the brim with oil. It's like the dip stick goes too far into the engine:nenau. I'm concerned as I havnt a clue what oil level is like any ideas?? And yes, I check it when engine is cold:lol

surly the flat part should be coverd in oil -------------start to worry when it aint got any oil on it. roy:

there should be 2 wee notches on the dipstick the oil level should be between these 2

what you on about Ryan? If the flat has oil on it, then you are ok. Should be two notches, low and max. Remove dipstick, wipe with a cloth and push back in, take reading.:thumb2

Wipe it clean it, insert it but not all the way, say 25mm out, then see where the level is.

My mav dipstick is strange, there are no notches on it just a thinning part of the flexible shaft, very difficult to see the level.:doh
