Had a good look today to see where my water is leaking from and fair play to you gang on here it's the pump so I picked one up from my local motor factors. Could anyone tell me do I need to use some sort of sealant on the gasket or is it just the gasket ??? Also wanted to tell you all that I'm feeling a little proud of my self today as I replaced the off side handbrake cable , all oils and a set of front pads:D. All I got to do now is the water pump which I'm looking forward too:eek: Is it a big job .. Any tips  John

Recently changed the water pump on my Patrol and I just used the included gasket.
The job itself is not too bad . unbolt cooling fan and viscous unit, unbolt and remove old pump clean the surface on engine block for a good seal then bolt everything back on but don't forget to put a bucket underneath when emptying coolant:augie

The new pump seems to have the viscous part attached to it .. Is it true the rad has to come off ?

i take the rad off it makes easier, and its only two bolts/screws at the top then lifts up, i also unclip the grill too
good time to check/replace the belts too.

i used some sealer on the water pump and gasket as you don't want to strip it down again if it leaks

TBH you really do need to remove the rad as it gives you loads more room & takes out the risk of hitting & damaging it:thumbs Been a good 6 years since i've done the pump on a 2.7 T2 but from what I can remember take rad cowling off & remove rad, take out the 4 bolts (I think it is) holding the fan onto the viscus coupling, remove the alternator & power steering belts then unbolt the old pump:thumbs clean up the surface on the engine block (old gasket etc) where the pump go's then fit your new pump. I'm sure I put some gasket sealer onto the paper gasket when I had to do mine (twice as first pump was faulty:doh) but can't remember what I used now:doh

Thanks sweety

No probs:thumb2 as said if you are thinking of changing your belts no is the time really as it's easier with the fan & rad out of the way. Anyway thought there was a write up in the down loads on it & there is:thumbs

Right water pump done, one of the bolts which hold the rad on snaped so I had to drill it out and replace with a nut and bolt but other than that it all went to plan. I did use some sticky shit to make sure I wouldn't get any leeks and replaced the antifreeze with the red stuff and while I had the rad off I cut off the old clip on the bottom hose as I couldn't get it off and replaced with a nice new one. Oh and one last thing before I removed the old pump with the belts off I gave it a little wiggle and could feel a bit of movement in the shaft, new pump cost me 40+ vat so all in all I'm a happy bunny. Next job is the front steering bar and underseal the whole underneath
