My water pump was leaking so I've taken it off. It looks to me like the gasket was buggered but I've just read a post that said it's the seal, not the gasket, that usually goes. Can someone point me to the seal ? And how would I test it ? Can't really do without the car much longer, but don't want to replace the gasket and rebuild everything if the gasket is not the problem.
Also I can't find a gasket for sale separately, so I'm going to have to make one. Does anyone know where I can buy one ?

new pump time

just fit a new water pump common on these mine went not long after getting the car, simple job you get a new gasket with the pump the seal is integral and cant be replaced.

£60 for a pump or £2 for a gasket. You can see my dilemma....

Just tested the pump, I think :nenau.

Held it so the internal part is at the top and filled it with coolant, swished it round a bit and emptied it. There was a trickle of water from outside the pump between the viscous coupling and the part that the bolts go through.

Conclusion, it's knackered :thumbs

They are £56.40 plus delivery, and the belts are cheap too.
I think they charge too much for delivery, and take ages to send parts out. Last time I ordered from them it took nearly a week for the parts to arrive.

Just ordered the pump and 2 belts from a local motor factors, just under £90 all in, collecting it Monday. It's cost me more but I have to have these part fitted on Monday or I lose money through time off work.

Right that's that done. PITA getting the radiator and shroud out, had to remove the bottom half of the shroud to get the rest out. Replaced with new pump, replaced both belts, topped up with coolant, no leaks so far. However the top and bottom hoses are getting quite hard, is this a sign that the radiator cap is buggered ? Changed it on my old TD and it seemed to help.
