Hi All, the Mav has been losing small amounts of water recently
I checked it today, lit up the area under the water pump on front of block, small trace of water, so I guess it is the pump
I have looked at the workshop for relacing the water pump, how does that differ from my model.
Is it simply hoses off rad, radiator out or something more challenging?
Where is the best place to get a new/recon one? is new best or recon AOK?
So far the Mav has been good to me, only needed 1 tyre 1 set of brake pads and half an exhaust in over 4 years.
With the rad out this may be the best time to fit the second alternator, comments please :bow:bow

Only done them on the 2.7TDI but am 99.9% sure the TD is the same, as you have said drain & remove rad, remove fan off pump, alternator & power steering belts off then you can remove the pump. Once pump is off clean up the surface on the engine block to remove any old gasket or sealer then it's refit time:thumb2 first one I did took me 50mins as had a few coffee breaks & wanted to take my time but my new pump was faulty as viscus was on all of the time so had to replace it a week later (warranty) & did it in 1/2 hour but I was working fast due to it snowing & being -1'c:doh Got my pump from local car parts place but the pumps seem to have a 60-80K life span from what I can tell

If I can recall from other posts, there are two different sizes for the 2.7 td.
So make sure you get the right one.

Thanks

Thanks for the update guys :bow
My local factor is getting them both in for me for noon tomorrow [sat] I return the unused one he says no handling charge:thumbs
Two prices 1 £100 other £70
Should all be sorted by Monday including fitting the aircon bracket I got from CNC months ago, for the second alt.

thermostat housing sometimes cracks too ...... worth checking ...... also the gasket perishes .

Sorry to thread hijack but if anyone does have an earlier metal thermostat housing, I'm in the market for one

work in progress

everything off except pump
Drivers side radiator bolt snapped, should be fun getting that out:doh:eek:
The factor supplied two pumps one has the fluid gadget, I hope that one fits
Watch this space for more and pictures

HELP

One of the bolts holding the water pump snapped.:eek:
There is about 6mm protruding, as the casting it is stuck in it aluminium I am not sure if it is safe to heat the end of the bolt with my plumbers gas torch without risking cracking the casting
Comments please gents.
Also does anyone have a drawing of the aircon pump mounting bracket and belt adjuster? I bought these items from CNCFABS some time ago to mount a second alternator, I am not too sure how they fit, I have all the Bolts they were sent with the other stuff.
With the radiator off I can get to the location easily but am stumped as to the exact location :doh:doh:doh:doh

yes heat it up so you cannot touch it, tap the end of the bolt with a hammer a few times if you have old style cellulose thinner apply that as it cools down other wise wd40 etc, do this 2 or 3 times and it should come out easy, Rick

Cellulose thinner rick. Does that act like wd40, wind it's way down into the threads?

It worked
Used draper Easyout to remove it:clap

There are two pumps listed but both seem to fit only one has the viscous thing, I am using the one with the new viscous
Pictures will follow when I can get them off my phone, Google pictures lets me download a link but the pictures do not show only the link:doh:doh

Get yourself a Dropbox account on your pc and also the mobile app. It'll do it all for you then, as soon as your phone connects to wifi it'll upload to dropbox.

Google photo has all my pictures
I tried dropbox but that seemed the same as Google, URL only no pictures
I guess I am doing something wrong, photobucket seemed to work but was long winded.

This is the trouble I'm having. Not yet tried photo bucket and not sure I want to.
