The front w.washer has just decided to suddenly reduce flow & then fail altogether. Made sure there is no blockage in the pipes & the rear wash still works perfectly (common pump). Then front wash stopped working at all & rear wash activates instead ie: rear wash activates no matter whether f or r is selected! I suspect the main switch but hope I'm wrong as that is likely to be very expensive. Good job I've got 10 months before the MOT to sort it!
Can I blame this on changing the key fob battery LOL? Stranger things happen on newer cars.

More to the point: has anyone got any suggestions?

If all else fails: my thoughts are turning to wiring-up the un-used headlamp washer pump off the original windscreen pump wires, & re-wiring the original windscreen washer pump using an independent sw, for the rear screen.

Can't say I'm too impressed with this Terrano, this is the 3rd potential MOT failure issue in 12 months & 4K miles & it's only done 33K from new. After my previous vehicle's (Astras, Cavalier, Fronteras) reliable service over 10 to 14 years of ownership with only minor faults perhaps I've been spoilt, but I expected better fron a Nissan. Then again I suppose you could say it's actually a Renault so I shouldn’t be at all surprised LOL.

Theres no renault parts in a terrano

After hours of messing about, I decided to swap the f & r pipes so that even though the pump will only work in reverse, it would then feed the windscreen. Then it fed both! I can live with that, but......tried it again & now there is no feed at all & the flick-wipe doesn't work......aaaarrrrrgggggg!!!! So it must be the switch?
Where is the Nissan reliability my sons have been promising me? Getting to wish I'd kept my Frontera.

The latest on the washer pump fiasco for those of you who like a good read:

Bought a 2nd hand washer/wiper switch off ebay @ £38 delivered (£150 Nissan + 30m round trip!) which only proved there was nothing wrong with the original- unbelievable ....doooohhhhh!!!!
New pump from Nissan £48 (+ the 30m round tip!) so tried internet with little success: 2nd hand £38 (yes you read that right) scarce part apparently.

The original is probably made in some dive in Czechoslovakia (1 up from Chinese junk?) so I'm not surprised it hasn't lasted, but the price from Nissan doesn't reflect this.

Out of desperation I called in to my nearest car spares supplier & spent 15min. going through their catalogue as nothing was listed at all for my Terrano. However, under Renault was what turned out to be a very similar substitute: 'High Tech PEWP23' @ £20.

Much to my surprise & relief, this works perfectly (now cleans the windscreen & the roof!) & all the weird symptoms have disappeared, but perhaps disturbing all the fuses helped?

Just for the record; there are no one-way valves in the system & the expensive & pointless connection between the pump outlets is blocked by a diaphragm......go figure.

Serves me right for not following my gut feeling & buying a new pump in the first place, it would have saved money & a lot of time but had LOL on the way (oh yeh?). Never mind, things learned that might help some-one else on here.

Your post will certainly be useful for other owners of the later Terranos.

The earlier ones like my mav, had two seperate pumps, each lasted over 16 years, but had to be replaced eventually. £6.90 each, so not the end of the world.
Also you can see the pump, and with care and some loss of water, if you were quick you could do it without draining down, but since I was doing mine in the garage, I drained down to save wetting the floor:lol

10 minute job in total, and being mean, I put the washer fluid back in.:augie

Changed my rear one recently, I was surprised to find all that holds it in place is a rubber grommet - push fit!
Certainly does make for an easy job to change it though.
