VW Emissions...

Fellas, a while back (last year), some how we trundled into the realms of the VW emissions saga and someone on here had a letter from a VW dealer regarding taking the vehicle in for "adaption".

The said person had a chat with a technician (or someone else) and decided not to get it done.

SWMBO has had a letter regarding the same and I'd like to find the thread to re-read up on it. The problem is that I can't trace the thread in question, it doesn't help that you can't search for VW.

Any pointers in the right direction would be gratefully received.

not about the thread but a mate of mine has just had his vw repaired on recall over emissions and he got it back and says its a lot faster,wonder what his fuel mpg will be like.

Thanks for that. The wife's recall letter says that fuel economy, power, torque and other emissions will not change, but that the update will reduce Nox emissions.

Now my brain tells me that something HAS to change to reduce the Nox emissions, because if not then why didn't it come from the factory like that.

I saw the dealer at the end of November 16 2nd service, and told him I do not want the upgrade done, he said it' not available for the Yeti 1.6 tdi Greenline, Yet !! which supposed to be the model with lowest emissions.

Anyhow... VW claim (as if I trust anything in writing from them lol:doh) it will not affect power, fuel economy etc.

So why wasn't it incorporated from day 1 ?

So I challenged him on 2 points, how will it affect the DPF, diesel particulate filter, will I need one sooner? so I have to pay out £1000 before it really needs one.

How will it affect the EGR exhaust gas recirculator valve, will it clog sooner and require a replacement?

There is no discussion regarding the overall reliabilty of the car after the mod, I guess something has to give and when a part fails possibly prematurely, then the garage will claim wear and tear or driver misuse, either way the owner will pay, and yet more business for the VW group... Win Win for VW all the way....:augie

The technician said there was no data on affected reliability, well how can there be, early days, so this is the main reason I will wait.

I was assured that by not having the mod, that it will not affect the warranty, or the ability to pass the MOT test, as at this moment in time the MOT does not test emissions, other than soot...:doh So why have it done?

There have been a few reported issues with the VW Tiguan on various forums, following the mod. I expect there will be more as time goes on.

I also wonder, if you accept a "repair" to a car, are you waiving any future compensation? another reason for me to wait lol, but I'm not holding my breath for that one lol...

It's panto time now, it reminds me of Aladdin, "New Lamps for Old" something given out free, for nothing, What's in it for them ?

The mod isn't a safety recall, so is not a legal requirement Yet in the Uk, but I read somewhere that in France it is a legal requirement, and a certificate of conformity is issued with each modded car.

Thanks Rustic, I knew someone had mentioned it before. I like you, am not an idiot. If you can change a setting and solve the problem with no other consequences then why was it not a factory setting?

More, much more, feedback is needed to be published before I encourage SWMBO to have this mod done. If there's no MOT issues and no legal requirement, then there'll be no mod happening.

Thanks for the reassurance that I'm not alone in questioning the logic in all this.

I will pass on the info to the wife.

We have a Seat Leon ST FR with the 2.0 TDI since a year, and were told by Seat that it was not impacted...

Even if it is, I'm very happy with it as is, so will not have them do the modification.
