Hi All.

Not sure whether I have an issue or not with my Maverick 2.7td cooling system.
Seems fine on local runs 40-50mph however crank it up or pull a loaded trailor and within a minute you can smell the engine getting hot from within the cab and the temp guage rapidly goes up.

So past months I put in a new radiator, new thermostat, new waterpump complete with viscous coupling but it hasn't changed the overall problem of getting hot under load.

Not sure even the new viscous is working correctly. From a cold start up till warm you can hear the viscous fan workingr. Then is stays off on normal driving. I would expect it to quickly kick in if the vehicle is under load but I don't hear it.

Any thoughts?

It does sound like your coupling is not working, from cold it should roar at about 2000 revs for a short while till the viscous fluid evens out due to centrifugal force, then it should go quiet, if the engine is working hard and the temperature is above half way then even at speed you should be able to hear the roar, how they work is on the front of the fan is a bimetallic coil spring as it gets hot it turns the small spindle which opens a port for the fluid to drive the fan the only thing you can check is that the spindle is free to move and not seized, Rick
