As says any on here that know about video, I will explain, I have .264 or H.264 files that I need to convert to another more readily playable format, and am not having much joy, the only one that works so far is DivX, but it ignore's the sound track and it is sound that is important as these are security vids, anyone know of a rock solid program, I am more than reluctant to pay for a program when most say that they can read 264 but then when confronted with a list of 264 says no files found, Rick

Rick,
just spoken to our DVR techy man, It looks like the H264 Video compression format may be Video only!
What machine was the file recorded on? and does it have an audio input?
If you want to send me a file Allan will investigate further.. If he can't get it to work - it wont work:bow

Is this an h.264 file from a multi channel recorder?

Yes 3 channels, one with sound, using the supplied "playback" it works sort of OK with sound but the sound is poor, but I need to be able to play this stuff back on many different computers, in different locations, Rick

It is a Swann multi channel security recorder and has sound on one channel, but I really need a converter to a better format, see my post re Rayf, Rick

Problem here is that multi channel h.264 wrapper is manufacturer specific, I'll have a dig around when I get home and see what I have....

Thank's Guys, the problem is compounded by the fact that that to create a separate record you need to insert a USB stick into the machine, and as it stores events in half hour blocks I have found that I have to insert a clean chip for each block I need to save, tried several blocks together says it is "backuping" 4 or whatever, but when I check it out it is only one and not always the first, so it is full of glitches, Rick

I use SUPER on my Mac for this sort of things and it's fantastic, Ray is correct, the audio wrapper will be manufacturer specific and you might encounter problems

I have had success in the past however using SUPER converting h.264 into MPEG-4 with a separate channel for audio in AAC

H.264 is a compressed format.S0 it may be worth trying to uncompress.into another format.Plenty of free video editing software on the net.I use MAGIX(Paid for software)
