been getting vibrating through the floor so had the wheels balanced but its still there, was wondering if this is a common problem with joints or bushes, the vibration starts at around 55mph which made me think about having the balancing done, any help much appretiated as its getting very annoying:thumb2

I had a similar "vibration" around 50~60MPH.
Turned out to be the front prop shaft, the sliding coupling had worn.
Diagnosed it by temporarily removing said prop shaft and vibration went away, new front prop now and now all OK.

As per Ray I would say front prop shaft, for me its happened twice exactly the same symptoms starts at around 55MPH.

For me its been the UJ's first was knackered and had noticeable movement in it, the second seemed fine in situ but when the prop was removed it felt very dry in one plane of movement. Replaced it and vibration gone.

Clearly not a problem with earlier trucks fitted with auto hubs, as the later ones had fixed hubs and no grease nipples to lubricate the front propshaft...:doh:doh

Hi there, i replaced my front UJ last april and have been getting more vibration lately, layed under at weekend and front UJ has alot of play again, rear (oringinal) still good no play, it did cost me £22 all in of ebay but thought would last longer than 10 months! I also have started to get a clonk under floor on drivers side now and again but finding hard to pin point as everything underneath looks tight, i hope its not the front box on its way out, just ordered new shocks all round as done 136k now and are orginal so thought would replace and see.Is it ok to drive around with front prop off to elimate front box clonking.

I left my vibrating front prop off for around 2 months without any issue.

Seems as though there may be a pattern emerging here.
Looks like quite a few 3.0L owners have had or are having issues with the front prop.
These models generally do not have auto hubs so the front prop is in service permanently, whether FWD is engaged or not.
Nissan (bless them) in their infinite wisdom also decided to do away with the grease nipples on the props fitted to these vehicles, and that can only aggravate to the demise of the UJ's.
My solution was to source a prop from a scrappy, originally from an earlier 2.7 model and rebuilt the UJ's with new yokes and bearing cups, now I have 3 grease points on the prop!

Thanks for that, yes i know my prop is in use all time regardless 4wd in or not, My choice is whether i get another £22 UJ last's 10 months or pay nissan £134.00 for one of their's! Can have several cheap ones!!

i've been looking on the milners website and the uj's are 12.00 each inc vat,im going to get a pair as my front prop has play in it:thumb2

has your wife left her RABBIT under the seat again ??????:lol

I got my joints from Milners and they do have grease nipples unlike the ones that were originally on the shaft

Presumably you now have 2 grease nipples (one on each yoke) and not a third on the splined coupling?

removed front prop tonite and no vibrating, absolute bliss, now to order from milners:thumb2
