I've been hearing good things about this stuff but does anyone know what it actually does? I've been told it stops shuddering when using WVO as it ups the Cetane which in turn males the fuel more combustable?

What Ratio should this be used? I've been reading that if you use too much Cetane then you could cause fuel components to expand and at worst the seals to start leaking

Is there anything better that I can use?

Some advise if you please kind ladies and gents

i use that, it is good stuff.

yes it increases the cetane value, cant remember what ratio it goes in but its summat like 10ml per 20ltrs

does it work wiv diesel too ? ( not that I need more power , just wondering )

As far as I've read it does, it just increases the Cetane in the fuel which in turn makes it more combustible in the chamber. Shouldn't see why you'd need it in Diesel though :nenau

If you just want to up the cetane, maybe try this.
I was using this on straight Diesel before I turned to veg and decided to keep on using it with the veg/petrol mix to help the Cetane value.
It's £12.99 at Halfords for that bottle, or a bit over a tenner with a Halfords Trade card :naughty

Right so I've whacked my first tank of WVO in of the year which has been filtered down to 1 Micron and then heated to over 100 degrees for about an hour.

I've replaced my fuel filter 1 month ago and the mini filter is clean as a whistle

Here's what I've noticed;

Pure Diesel - Fine
Pure SVO - Fine
Pure WVO - Top speed of 50mph and car judders
80% WVO 20% Diesel - Fine but can still be smokey on startup when cold

Will using VeggieBoost cure this? As if it doesn't ill be better off just buying SVO at 80p a litre and adding nothing which is a real shame as I have got WVO coming out of my ears

Advice guys?

no you will not get more power Pete, it just ignites a little sooner so the rest of the injection burns smoother, less knock, but it will help poorer igniting veggy stuff, Rick

Banshee, how thick is your WVO in the morning compared to the SVO you've been using? Put some of each in a glass jar outside over night and see if your WVO is thickening, most likely the cause of your issues.

The diesel is thinning the fuel so helping it through the pipes and filters, try using petrol instead as it thins the WVO down much better. However, also mix your WVO with petrol outside the tank and leave for a day or so as you may be mildly surprised at what drops out after mixing petrol in.

Veg oil has a higher cetane rating than diesel already, the problem is it needs a bit of dilution to make it flow as well. Petrol reduces the cetane level below diesel so then you need the likes of veggie boost.

A very informative post Arca :)

So if I'm right I think I should be filtering to 1 Micron, heating to 100 degrees for an hour or so, putting some petrol in and letting it settle overnight and then smacking some veggie boost in?

Way I do it saves a bit of time, but whatever works:

Rough filter through a bedsheet as I collect it (Cloudy stuff I'll leave to settle over time or really manky goes straight to Makro for a £5 off a new 20L cubie!)

When there's a decent enough amount, I heat it up to 50-60 degrees and pump it round via a spray bar so the hot water in suspension atomises, usually for a few hours (no need to hit 100 degrees as water evaporates at much lower temps - consider rain evaporating from concrete on a warm day). Leave this to then cool and pump out into containers leaving room for 10-20% petrol to be added.

Leave the petroil mix to settle for a couple of days and then filter through one folded J-cloth suspended in a set of filter socks of 100 -50 -1 micron.

Finally just before it hits the tank and burns, lob in some veggie boost when I remember.

Sounds complex, but isn't really and filtering after the petrol improves the speed of filtering no end and also saves the filters as it usually gets most of the remaining bits to drop to the bottom of the settling tanks.

That's a nice method :thumb2

I have started to dump an immersion heater into the sock to make it thinner so it filters through quicker

Ordered some Veggie Boost last night so hopefully I'll get that soon :D

Watch out filtering when warmer than current ambient temps, your nicely filtered runny warm oil can turn to thick gloop if you're not careful. Best to filter at outside temps then you shouldn't get any whites settling in the tank (unless the weather switches back to winter on you!)

Let it cool and then add the petrol, you'll be amazed at how much faster it runs through when diluted.

ooh. don't heat it and filter it as it will go through with no problem and take all the crap stuff with it..... filter at ambient temp.

Thanks for the tips guys, yet another reason I pay my membership

i've gained a source of free WVO, Won't run much in my 90, probably only 10-20% but will take the edge off the price of diesel. Nice to pick up some tips here.

But plan on getting a second car (either a pug or citroen).

Go hard or go home!!!! 10-20% lol you might as well just piss in the tank :lol You'll not notice the difference

makes the cost of the diesel about £1.16, better than nowt.

Just run SVO for 80-90p then? :nenau

80p? where is it at that price?

Yes 90p a litre it can be found, But as it's a different engine I don't really like running more than 50-60%. And at 90p svo it's about the same saving.

And locally I can only get soya shite.

Anyway, I want to get it now so they know I am serious about having it all for when I get a pug or citroen to run more percentage. A saving is a saving at the end of the day :thumbs
