just found out i have no working brake lights on my terrano 2. Have checked the fuse and its fine, and bulbs appear to be good too, im assuming the brake lights are the seperate unit half way up side of rear ??

Help please, i need to drive to work tomorrow!

Strange that they are both out. Is there a brake light switch on the brake pedal... take a look and see it the wires are OK and that the switch seems to work. If in doubt, remove both wires and join, ign on then see if you have brake lights...

just checked the switch, the wiring seems ok, and the button isnt sticking! any other ideas?

Test for a live at the switch, if OK, join the two to bypass switch. Then see what you have got...

sorted, swapped the fuse for the "room light" same amp and they are working now!

Whats "room light"? all interior lights still working...?

they seem to be a bit temperamental now, most of the time they work, but on the odd occasion they dont come on, think i might just get a new switch just in case it is sticking slightly

Sounds like switch. Spray with electrical cleaner if u got some.

And bulb holders and sockets, as back wheels spary dirty water and much onto them.

My indicators sometimes do that..

They are on...
they are off...
they are on...
they are off......

:lol:lol

Reminds me of Trigger, saw a star, then it disappeared, then it was there, then it disappeared again.. he asked Del Boy what it was...

" It's called blinking Trigger...:doh:doh "

Brake lights are at the higher level, with access to the bulbholders from inside the boot. So they should be in a oerfectly dry environment.

The switch is the likely culprit, and suggestions have been given already on how to diagnose this.

1 Test supply to the switch.
2 Test the output from the switch.

Now to make life easier,
run a wire to a small wattage 12 volt bulb, say 5 watts or less, wire this to the input of the brake light switch, and ground the other side of the bulb.

Do the same again to to output of the switch.

Run the cables so they are out of the way, then as you drive along you will notice which bulb doesn't light.

Thus pointing to the supply and possibly the fuse, or the switch, then if neither, then the rear bulb holders or bulbs ( unlikely ) or wiring to them. (See below...)

Incidentally, do you have a tow bar?
If so, it might be a broken or intermittant connection where the caravan socket is patched in.

Hope it helps,
best regards,
Rustic

Its been raining where I live over night, is there rain getting in somewhere such as the towbar socket and shorting out? Or the joints where towbar wiring has been made to the main loom?

Im free from 7.30pm if you want to pop over... bring your tester as ours are at work.
