what does is entail on doing to change the upper and lower ball joints . I don't have a fork splitter just the normal scissor one that doesn't open wide enough ?. do I have to remove the hub

have not done a road going motor as yet, but cos I keep breaking front shafts, need to remove them on the off road motor, I just jack it up in the middle, undo top and bottom ball joint nuts but leave them on a few threads, and whack the section the taper goes into and they pop out, oh just remembered remove the bottom shock mount first to allow max droop of the bottom wish bone as this applies the separation force, Rick

I just change my upper and lower ball joints and now the wheels look like this \ / and I got to fight the car to go straight . does anyone know why changing these joint would do this so bad ?.

No you've got the wrong top balls
Motor factor cock up, take em back. There was a suspension change somewhere round the P reg era I think.
Put the details of your truck on your siggy then we'll all know what it is for help desk efficiency ;)

Ah signature, the bit under any post you do ;) Typically a blurb on your truck or perverted hobby :lol

What year is your truck? I g/tee if you have just fiddled with your balls and now have massive positive camber you have the wrong top ball joints.

its a x reg t2 /2.7 tdi engine code td27ti and .i looked on milners they only do one top joint .but I got mine from eurocarparts and asked them before buying if it was the right one for my truck and they said they was . I did have negative camber on the drive side before . I done the track rods and the upper lower balls .plus the arb bushes . I got the drop links to do . the part number is 617700520 from eurocarparts

When I had my 2.7, the first service I did on it, I bought the parts from ECP, only one type of oil filter I was told by the mush behind the counter.
I all ways part fill my oil filters before fitting (old Rover V8 trick) and being an absolute arse to fit the 2.7 filter, I fiddled and fumbled for ages, then I checked the old filter and found the threaded hole was larger :doh

Next day ECP had me and the new messy filter at the counter, then another mush said there are 2 filters for the 2.7, got my money back

That's why I always buy my oil filters from the dealers now, anyway, don't trust what your told from ECP, much better info on here :thumb2

OOPS, senior moment :doh There are defo TWO different bottom ball joints. Sorry was doing this with wine goggles on I think :lol
The bottom ball joints have a kind of fork where the bolts go through, there are two types and about 15mm difference in the arms of the forks. If that makes sense. Have you got the old ones still ? If so measure it and do the same with the ones on there.
It's the only possible answer I reckon :thumbs

yeah I have checked all of them against the old ones .I even phoned eurocarparts to check all the parts was right . the old ones looked like the original ones and they was shot to bits . I did the track rods as well . I even broke my ball joint splitter trying to get the top joint off . the only thing I can think of is who had the truck before me must have adjusted the camber as the joint as been wearing and now I have put new ones on it has put it out

Put a picture up of the camber. I don't think you can get that much adjustment of the top arms with shims :nenau
Track rod ends won't effect camber by the way :thumbs
Just a thought, has your truck been lifted ?

I am going to take it all apart and going threw all of it checking for tightness. because I went down the road and as soon as I got to 20 mph and rough tarmac ( bumpy) it went all over the place it felt like the wheels were snaking . I had to keep moving the steering wheel left and right to keep it from hitting the wall and other cars. my wife said as I drove of the wheel went from nearly straight to folding under ?
