Help needed please, i'll tyr to describe the symptoms of a steering problem on the Terrano.

The car has always had a slight pull to the left but sometimes irrespective of road camber the pull to the left is really strong, the wheel takes some holding I can tell you!

If you brake when the steering is like this then the car veers all over the road,I dont know why, and when you loose the brakes the car goes back to pulling hard left.

I have checked and its not happening due to my compensating the steering.

This happened again today and then went away as usual. I went to work in the car and had to steer hard left off my driveway and the left front wheel dropped off a small gutter, there was such a noise from the front. Like a graunching sound.

Has anyone any ideas on whats happening, any pointers or advice please?

Were off on a camping holiday this Saturday so would like to get it done before then if possible.

steering problem

the graunching sound when you are on full lock could be the steering stops.plenty of grease on them should sort it out.as for the steering pull i know what you mean.had mine tracked up twice in the last month and it still does it.could be the compression rod bushes are shot it(thats my next job after the front shocks)theres a picture showing what they look like in an old post called camber problem?solution.have fun :?

Well i hope to have found and cured the peoblem.
I have checked all bushes etc and could only find play in steering component, but when checking the operation of the n/s front brake it seemed likely that it was sticking on occassions.
Ive taken the caliper off the carrier and lubricated the pots, also greased the slide pins and so far everything is ok.
