U j joint ???

Hi again, I've go a Rumbling noise when the terrano is in a gear which is too high for the speed in which the car is traveling e g when going up a hill but the noise will stop when the truck speeds up if that makes any sense to you. I've been under the truck but can't feel any play in the u j and the truck is on 85.000 miles and believe thay are the originals, so could this be the problem. Like I said its only when the truck is under load at slow speeds and vibrates through the car. Any ideas chaps ??? Car is a 04 2.7 Tdi.

Easy thing to eliminate (and a likely cause) is the front prop shaft.
Just remove 8 bolts, drop it, and see if it behaves any better.
