The wifes terrano has just eaten the the outside edges on the front tyres,They were new on the front when we bought it and after 5000 miles not looking good:doh

I have always thought it had a strange camber on the front tyres a bit like \ / ??
Not much luck today with the few local alignment specialists I went to:nenau although they all agreed that it looked as though the camber was out they all said that there was no way to adjust it:confused:

Any Ideas?

tyre wear is the tracking spot on ?

Feathering is a condition when the edge of each tread rib develops a slightly rounded edge on one side and a sharp edge on the other. By running your hand over the tire, you can usually feel the sharper edges before you'll be able to see them. The most common cause of feathering is incorrect toe-in setting, which can be cured by having It set correctly. Occasionally toe-in will be set correctly and this wear pattern still occurs. This is usually due to deteriorated bushings in the front suspension, causing the wheel alignment to shift as the car moves down the road.

Camber wear is violent and confined to a small area of the tyre.
Non standard wheels can be a reason for camber wear problems.
if camber is knocked out it will disturb the wheel alignment but the wear pattern and method of correction are miles apart (be wise) camber can cause a pull even from the rear of the car, wheel alignment apart from it’s wear will not, (don’t be fooled)

This might help - a simple test is to put the flat of your hand with fingers together and with your fingers at right angles to the wheel push your hand towards the inner wheel arch and then pull it straight back. If you feel a 'file effect' in either direction you have a toe in or toe out problem. If the tyre is smooth in both directions then you are fine.

If you have wheels or tyres wider than the originals then it is probably because you are oversize as it mucks up the front steering geometry. Almost all Mercedes cars with the manufacturers wider wheel options have this problem. Most obvious on the CLK & CLS models and leads to poor tyre life. Mercedes deny there is a problem but all owners & dealers know otherwise.

Mine has always worn on the inner edges but since I've lifted the front on the tortion bars there is no sign of uneven wear.
