How much life do you get out of Tyres, used 4mm up over 4kmls on rear and 1mm on front.
Tyres are Pirellli scorpion STR.
Any chance it could be old LSD oil as truck does not like tight turns on tarmac especially at slow speeds.
Thinking of changing to this as its available locally.

David.

sounds like lsd kind of thing

best change it asap

That's exactly the oil I use in my TD Mav :thumbs

As I have posted before, rear tyres need to be same type, same pressure and same tread depth or the Rear diff will work harder.

Wow it has really affected your tyres.

Also check you are not in 4 wheel drive.
That is some wear.

Ditto....try reversing on full lock and if you can feel it 'skipping' thats the tyres trying to unload tension from it being in 4WD (which isn't intended for dry use...EVER!) so you need to get it unstuck.

But changing the LSD oil (using the CORRECT stuff) is a good move as well, in any event.

Is the stuff I've put a link the correct oil, got 3l coming tomorrow. Only notice it at slow speeds and not been in 4wd since winter. But will check again. David.

yours may have the smaller Diff like mine and it only takes 1.8L, I ordered 3 and gave the extra to Solarman :doh

As Plank says, with a facelift truck its highly likely you have the later smaller diff that only takes 1.8 litres. And yes, its the absolutely correct stuff.:thumbs

Thanks a lot to you and Plank as I didn't know of a different size in diff and would have had a bit of a panic when the third one overflowed. David.

LOL you wouldn't have got to the third one, the second would overflow.:lol

And to nick Rustics constant tip, make sure you can undo the filler plug before opening the drain plug :augie

Three Litre. But can't complain, only cost £4.50 a litre. It drives better now, no more scrubbing on full lock on tarmac. David.

Members of this club know more about these vehicles than most of the main dealers when it comes to rear diff oil and the associated issues.
AND many other issues, more especially as these vehicles get older, and the dealers see less of them.

A cheap fix at the end of the day, well worth the £10 yearly fee. :clap :clap

PS Lacroupade, I can't take the credit for the suggestion of removing the filler plug on the rear diff before the drain plug, I was only repeating the tip from another member. :thumb2 :thumb2

Best regards, Rustic

Just tripped over the service schedule.....in severe driving conditions, which includes towing, recommended intervals for LSD oil change are 18,000 miles or two years :)

  I thought it was 40 k..... Cheap to change though.
Only 10 minutes to do the job overall but allow say 15 minutes to drain in between..
