anyone know what the legal requirement is for the tred on any vehicle, i dont mean the depth , i need to know if the tred is measured over the whole surface of the tyre, or can you get away with a wee baldy bit on the outside.

I thought it was 1.6mm over 75% of the width!!

But as you get weather worserer than us in the NE of England, which Is a very lot worserer than those in the south!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would have thought for self preservation, if your are questioning if a tyre is almost leagal, it really does need changing!!

1.6mm over the central 3/4 of the tread - all the way around.

So you can get away with bald bits in the outside and inside 1/8s of the tyre.

3-4 mm is when im looking to get rid.................. after that they really dong grip the road . and stopping is reduced .

as someone once said . all that weight and at those speeds and its on the road by those bits of rubber ..........

its really not worth it

i see the m23 was closed again tonight................ someone else not going to make it home to his wife and kids

You could take up drifting would be something different in a 4x4 :)
