My brother's 3 litre is on standard 17" SVE alloys and his are pretty meaty and all he's done is taken the mudflaps off and chopped a tiny lip off the sill and he was sweet :thumbs
Bloody hell Zac! Is yours trying to eat the Fiesta?
I've got this page on the go at the moment ( https://tiresize.com/tires/Cooper/Discoverer-AT3.htm ) as I decide which tyres to replace my Cooper discoverer A/T3 235/65/17 (which are for sale along with alloys...). Max arch width is 31", or just over. On a standard truck, I wouldn't want to be any bigger than 30".
First thing I'd ask is what do you want wider for? The standard truck with decent off road tyres is a very capable beast. If you're off to play days, you'll find their limits pretty quickly.
I've just noticed that you're reducing profile and getting a diameter of 28" https://www.tacomaworld.com/tirecalc?tires=215-65r17-255-55r17 and will be looking at two or three problems. Width, harsh ride and smaller diameter than standard.
I'd go with something like the Cooper 235/65/17 and see if you can pick something up second hand. :augie
