Hi all could you please tell me why some people put two stroke oil in with the fuel. Is it only to be used with veg oil ??

Some of the additives that used to be in diesel and no longer in it, so the cheap mineral 2 stroke oil contains these, increased mpg and a quieter healthier engine :thumb2

Effects are only marginal, but I must admit I noticed the noise difference. People also report smoking stopped. Oh and it supposedly cleans out the cylinders ect :thumb2

2 stroke oil helps to increase the sulphur content of the fuel as all diesel is now low sulphur & it's supposed to be great cleaning out all the carbon off the injectors, glow plugs, valves etc. What i've found is my engine is quite a bit quieter now since i've started adding it, it's not kicking out any black smoke any more that I can see no matter how hard I drive it & it seems to be starting better aswell so I do think it has been cleaning the carbon off thing inside the engine. Need to recheck my MPG as some people have noticed a slight increase in it where others haven't but I think i'll keep on adding it anyway

Cheers. I have heard of this before but not actually experienced anyone doing it. As well as the MicraShed (petrol) I have a HDi engined PSA Eurovan which despite being low milage smokes like a beagle when clogged.

I have adjusted the fueling, the timing is bob on and the injectors are only 30K old and have only ever been run on decent fuel and a cetane booster, but still it smokes like its overfuelling on boost. Its a FAP (DPF) free car so I wont run the risk of clogging that up if I add 2 stroke, Ive just never been sure of what ratio to add it.

I'll bob down the bike shop on Saturday (gives me an excuse to peruse the lids and gloves) and pick up some.

Gonna get me some from the supermarket in a bit now :thumb2

Just make sure you don't get the synthetic stuff, you want cheap and cheerful mineral! I got lawn and garden oil :lol

Oh and in relation to ratios - not saying its right but I put way more than that in, prob about. 500ml per 40l if anyone wants to work that out :D

Alex mate that's a ratio of 1:80 - more than double the recommended ratio...

I alternate between 2 stroke oil & petrol on every full tank

500ml of 2 stroke oil to a full tank of diesel

&

5 litres of petrol to a full tank of diesel

OK, the 2t I understand, but the addition of petrol, I do not........more information please?

From what I have read, not recommended for Hdi engines though, can't recall why, but no improvement I think...:nenau

I must admit I did this for a while, and then I was seriously put off doing it.

The Diesel engine will quite happily run on upto 30% petrol with no negative effects.

However :doh

The fuel pump and injectors are designed to be permanently oiled by diesel, thus by adding petrol, when the petrol touches the internals of the injectors and pump they are effectively "running dry" although with the low ratios the wear would minimal, it would still be greatly increased from using oil based fuels only. :thumb2

The petrol cleans / unblocks the injectors ( same as coke'a'cola does ;) ) & helps burn all the un-burnt residue :thumbs

5 litres petrol / 65 litres diesel = a low ratio :thumbs

Well, the experiment begins then.

The HDi has had 100ml of Millers and 250ml of 2 stroke to a full tank (80L)

The Maverick has had 50ml of Millers and 250ml of 2 stroke to a full tank (70L)

I'll see what if any difference they make.

Keep an ear out for the engine note :thumb2

normal injection runs at around 2000 psi, common rail runs at 20 to 30 k psi, they need pure derv with possibly two stroke for lube, but as they are new design after sulphur content has been reduced guess maybe they are capable of running on neat derv with no probs, Rick
