MOT time, and I need to do a couple of jobs first...

Firstly, I need to replace the front Rotors, pads etc, and while at it, I want to replace the 4 (2 on each side) circular anti-squeal shims that fit in the end of the pistons.

Anyone know where I can get the shims from?

Secondly, my car has always worn the outside edge of the Near side tyre far worse than the Off Side.

The near side has 6mm of tread on the inside edge, but is down to 1mm on the outside edge, where as the Off Side has 6mm on the inside, and 4mm on the outside edge.

Normally, if this was just tracking, I would have thought both wheels would wear on the edge, but pretty evenly on both tyres, so what should I be looking at to make one side wear more than the other?

Suspect your camber then? :nenau

first thing is to put two tyres on the front that are either new or absolutely equal in wear, then check what happens, cos once a tyre starts to wear on one side it will continue no matter what you do, Rick

The tyre wear sounds like a geometry issue of some sorts (rusty on it all these days:eek:) but if there is play in any of the steering components it would make things worse. I had slight uneven wear on the front tyres on my last T2 & found putting 27psi in sorted that out & have done the same with this one & got nice even wear right across the tread but I also swap the wheels front to back every 6K as Nissan recommends.
You should get the anti rattle shims with your new set of pads I know I did the last time I bought some for the old truck

That's exactly what I did...

When I got the car the front N/S was illegal. So was the spare...

I put 2 new on the front, and the original OK front one as a spare.

These 2 wore down as above over about 17K miles. I took the car in to have the tracking done, but the Trackrods were sized and they could not do it. He said the tracking was right on the maximum tolerance, so it should be OK, and to get it done once the Trackrods were replaced. Sods law they are still going strong!!

I put the AT's on, and again, after 17K, they are at this stage.

Could it be tracking? or is it likely to be camber?

The front is pretty tight, no play to notice anywhere.

Normally run 26psi, but prefer not to swap the tyres round, so you can see what is going on, especially in situations like this.

Cheers on the Pad info, I will double check when I purchase them.

Tracking needs to be done regular, I will see if I can get a pic of the kit we use (sub contractor) it's incredibly accurate via lasers. Either you have would up the torsions too far and the wheels are sitting in at the top or your tracking is out.

Pretty counter productive really as pot holes and bumps put the tracking out... :doh

Anti Squeal shims don't always come with the new pads, it would be interesting to know, which makes do...

One of mine disintegrated, so not replaced, with a good smear of copper grease on the back of the pads, and the face of the pistons and a light application on the contact points, and all sorted.
I have never had any strange noises from my front discs or pads.

Always use brake cleaner on the discs, (and old pads just before refitting), BUT before applying copper grease.

If you fit new pads and/or discs, don't forget to burnish them, ie bed them in, in a controlled manner, otherwise you will think you have lost your brakes...

Got Blueprint rotors and pads today, and the pads have an anti squeal shim that covers the whole pad, so basically the one on the pistons is superfluous.

Also went to get 4 wheel alignment check, and the guy said that since nothing other than tracking is easy to adjust on the T2, that probably best to start with just plain, and cheaper tracking check... Basically the tracking was at 8, and should be between 1.5 and 2.5, so it was a very long way out.

So, now with 2 new BFG's on the front, tracking done, brand new MOT, and just the need to change the front brakes, and do oil change over the weekend to make her perfect again.
