Hi Guys, Mav has a fault.

A few days ago it wouldn't start after work like a dead battery. Tried to jump start from another car but nowt. Thought the battery on it was too small not enough CCA.

Well my dad borrowed it friday, Bumped it in the morning. He went to work thinking he will have a mate there with a 4x4 to jump it. Meanwhile I was at work and ordered a new battery online.

Would not jump from the 4x4, Also battery has arrived and same symptoms.

Just tried bypassing the main 12v+ feed to starter from battery and it's the same. Aswell as a 2nd tractor battery attached to jump leads.

So I am thinking duff starter motor?

But I did read on here some people had the same symptoms and they thought maybe ignition switch backplate?

Whats your thoughts?? :nenau

i had same symptoms mine was the starter that was the problem

Take a quick look at battery terminals.

Sheet in downloqd section.

Cheaper to fix.

Mine also appeared to be dead but turned out to be the ignition switch. If I remember correctly though, I still had everything else working correctly (lights etc), it just did nothing on the final key position. I thought starter motor until I read about the switch on here.

I tried turning it over it by bypassing ignition with the new main feed. Same result which ruled out ignition switch backplate.

I remembered I had a old starter in the shed from my other mav. I had a quick look at it and diagnosed the solenoid was faulty but the motor was fine.

Current mav symptoms showed starter motor was broken but solenoid fine.

Put the solenoid on my old starter. Bingo! now have a working truck again.

Glad I didn't chuck that old starter!

Aye, I don't really. But trying to not collect as much junk.

Shame a bought a new numax battery, Ah well that will make a nice 2nd battery on the patrol.

Got exactly the same with mine at the moment. Changed starter months ago but broke down again the next day. Have since changed battery , ignition, battery clamps and checked every earth and connector. Still cranks slow , looks like new starter my be bo!!oxed. Think something else may be wrong to knock out starter, maybe alternator ?? Anyway mot run out and weather is shite so another time :lol

Never throw any thing away!

I never keep junk... My wife thinks differently...:nenau
I just keep things for recyling :doh

You've saved a fortune on combining both working parts:thumb2
