Gents, any point in a turbo timer for the T2?? Also where would I get a 12V switched power source from??

No is the short answer.

You rev high enough or long enough to warrant one, there just a gimmick on most road cars to as they'll never really need the use of one.

I like turbo timers as you can go out start the car set it for ten mins. Remove keys lock it while still running so you can defrost it with out someone stealing it

I was always told you will get done for leaving a vehicle running while unattended, locked or unlocked, Rick

I've paid my tax for the fuel and the privilege of using the tarmac so I'll bloody well leave my engine running as I please.
Only difference is I have no timer and leave the keys in it :lol

Indeed you can....

The offence is "quitting"

Stationary idling is an offence under section 42 of the Road Traffic Act 1988

The Act enforces rule 123 of the Highway Code which states: "You must not leave a vehicle engine running unnecessarily while that vehicle is stationary on a public road."

But..

The rules over stationary idling apply to public roads so if idling in the school car park would be okay, but it could prove costly if you're caught idling on the street.

Old article, but this council specifically set up hit squads to catch drivers...

lost me Clive, but I do not give a toss anyway, you know me, regards Rick

Me neither as my drive is a mile and a half long and a normal car wouldn't make I lol even if I gave post code you wouldn't find me lol. And we regularly leave keys in over night so bollox to them hehe

I shall check however for the offence of "quitting" I believe the keys have to be in the ignition I. E u have left the car unattended ready to go. Companies such as Clifford alarms do a alarm package that allows you to press a button on the fob which starts the car for you and warms it up.

I will double check the full offence wording.

errmm, a normal car doesn't have to make it... someone could easily drive yours away, they could be walkers, off road bikers lol...

Anyhow, in Canada, the cars out there have a remote start option, can even be linked to a phone link, so car could be a mile away, you could start it, it would be warm when you got there lol... If you engage drive without the key, they cut out. Only works if in Park mode. I assume similar device for manuals.

Mind you if they can fine you for peeling a banana whilst stationary...
So if you are stationary in a traffic jam, and you take both hands off the wheel then... instant fine..., don't sneeze then, or talk to a passenger in the back, or light a cigarette. But some white van drivers can have a map across the steering wheel and still be doing 70 mph... Still too many people using mobile phones whilst driving, women putting lippy on, even whilst driving, I see several every trip, surely the police do...
The police are looking for easy targets,

For all of those "quitters" out there I can officially confirm that the offence of quitting no longer exists. It was abolished some years ago. If however you leave the keys in the ignition and walk away from the vehicle, apart from being stupid your insurance would be void and no claim could be made.

Hope this clears a couple of issues up :thumbs
