Turbo release and turbo whisling

Im wondering when the turbo on my 2.7TDI 97' releases the turbo boost?
And is it normal for the turbo to whistle when i give much trottle?

Have hade some TD cars in my life, but none have been whistling.
Can the seal turbo seal be bad?

Well yours is a bit weird :lol and your ecu is just along for the ride isn't it
All the ones I've been in that work had lovely whistley turbos :naughty

Not on these old beasties, it's simply vacuum regulated I think via the waste gate.
ECU will (should) manage the fuel to suit the air/fuel mix and charge temp going in and when etc. Or in your case , erm, observe :lol

if you fit a K&N air filter you can hear the whistle even more

well now it can observe the air getting sucked in through the monster white and chrome cone filter I put on it yesterday.

The airbox is going back on today to give it some direct cold air, as about half the new filter will be inside the airbox. Not really worried about getting more air to it or improving performance, just want to keep the white bit clean.

I never heard my turbo whistle before, but when I fitted a turbo boost gauge, the noise was transmitted down the pipe to the gauge, which was acting like a speaker cone, so I put a clamp on the pipe under the bonnet, to resrict the air flow, but still allow the gauge to work, and the whistle has now quietened down, but to be honest, it's quite nice to hear it.

I tend to reduce the throttle a bit...

could be your flexi pipe ours made a nice whistle when it corroded got a nice new hand made exhaust now no whistle but nice and fruity at the back end

So if you had a gauge fitted what should the correct boost pressure be?

Turbo whistle is absolutely gorgeous, it dosnt help economy or endear your neighbors, but when your spirits needs lifting, you feel a little bit of that youthful rebellion in you coming out, there is nothing better, similar to a Suzuki t500 with full race expansion pipes, a glorious sound. God that makes me feel old

not as nice as the spit, crackle and roar of a padget yamaha with expansion pipes on racing around olivers mount track ( omg im old too )

No idea but mine's a tad under 15 psi :naughty

Thanks Peter, I have done some research on other sites and have found that the standard boost pressure is 10psi.
