Hi guys can anyone offer some advice please?

On friday i changed my MAF and whilst i had it off i noticed what appears to have been an oily looking stuff inside the intake pipe from the MAF to the turbo.

I have to say that the intake into the intercooler always has an oily substance on it too and i do plan on cleaning the intercooler out with petrol.

Firstly, should i be concerned by the oily stuff?
Is it possible for a DIY mechanic to repair or refurb the turbo or is it a matter of buying a refurbed one?

Any help or advice is much appreciated

Cheers
Stephen

I think everything around there is always a bit oily, more so with the "wrong" grade of engine oil, don't worry about it!

i think makeitfit has an oil catcher so that done happen on his..

looks at the sig for his photos of that hes done, its all there

Hi thanks for the replies.

This blow by control valve....does the post say i can block the end going to the turbo or even fit a catch tank of some kind?

How do i clean this valve out for a starting point?

i have used a splash of petrol to clean this!

A quick update a possibly a few more questions may need answering...

Today i took off the intercooler, inlet pipe, blow by control valve and other associated pipes to wash and degrease.

Whilst i was cleaning the intercooler, as expected the degreaser and the petrol i used to wash it out turned horribly oily, i rinsed it out a good few times until the fluid coming out was pretty clean.

What i did notice also was that when i cleaned/ washed the blow by valve the fluid easily poured out of all three pipes, does this mean the valve inside is stuck open?
Can i simply block the pipe off that goes to the inlet pipe towards the turbo, stopping any future oil contamination or could this cause me problems?
If so how do i free it as it doesn't look like it can be dismantled without breaking it?
I checked the turbo turbine on the inlet side whilst i had the pipework off and it spun freely although there did seem to be a little movement on the end of the shaft, is this acceptable?

So, just to put it all back together and try it.
