Hi

just wondered if anyone can tell me where/how I connect a turbo pressure guage.. wil use a manual one (rather than electronic ender type) but need to know exactly where I tee the pipe in??? Any help would be appreciated

thanks

Did mine on the waste gate actuator thing, plenty of pipe to get hold of there:D

On my 2.7td, I "tee'd" into the pipe that comes off the aluminium pipe that goes across the rocker cover with "TURBO" on it.

At this point it only measures positive pressure even though my gauge does vacuum as well, is there a place I can get vacuum, ie off the inlet manifold?

No you cannot get a vacuum reading on a diesel unless the inlet is throttled which it is not, Rick

Thanks for that, that explains it.

I fitted a Vacuum performance gauge on my petrol ambassador, I suppose the opposite of a boost gauge, and if you closed the throttle going down hill you had maximum vacuum, so I tried to conserve fuel by backing off the throttle to maintain some vacuum, and it did seem to work, as when you hit the throttle, all vacuum was lost.

More toys for boys really, but by fitting the boost gauge, you can now hear the turbo, as the turbo noise is now transmitted down the air pipe, so I have put a restriction in the pipe, that still allows the gauge to work but reduces the whistle. Mind you I quite like the noise, as it reminds you to back off the gas a bit.

Thanks for that.. looks like another sesion under the bonnet to look for rubber pipes around the turbo area??? Is it an easy job to do? I wonder if I could remove the I/C and tab into it as it leaves the turbo? ... Any idea what pressure they run at as it will help on what max scale guage I get... gonna fit a voltmeter as well..

quite like the look of these!

Timbo is your man with all things turbo :D
When I did mine on the waste gate thingy it took all of 2 mins :thumbs

Given an average max boost in the region of 15 PSI, a 0~30 PSI scale should work ok.

Some are shown in bar, 1 bar = 1 atmosphere = approx 15psi, so 2 bar is approx 30 psi
