Was thinking about improving performance of my TDI, I have had it over 4 years know and need to put some zest back into our relationship.
Has anyone had experience with 'chip' tuning or powerboxes, good or bad. Just looking for some reccommendations really.

TIA

well i had the chance to go out on the motorway alone tonight ...
i have to say my tdi has plenty of zest, went straight past the 110mph and kept going. on the duel carriageway home she waltzed around the roundabouts... on the country lanes she sticks to the tarmac like gum...

im still in love with the maverick

You'll find you can't get the ecu chipped and you need to get a tuning box.

Have a look at diesel performance tuning box's, or PSI Powerbox if you can find one!!!!!!

tuning box (make sure you get the plug-in type, not the wire-in variety) - i have a psi one and my goodness does it make a difference!

Very recommneded...

Alterntively you can have the ecu remapped, but the downside to this is its fixed - the tuning box can be unplugged as and when...

The re-map does give slightly more power though as they are tailored to each vehicle- try mj motorsport in walsall if you want to go down this route.

MPG is better too.

Hmmm. These company's no longer manufacture for 2.7TDI Terranos any longer.........

If you want a plug in eg PSI Powerbox your best bet is ebay.

Remapping will only be done on a common rail diesel as they won't touch anything with a mechanical pump.

I had the same issue with my Patrol and got a wired in DPT box, what a difference.

I am afriad you are not correct with your statement about only remapping common-railers.

Both MIJ and Derv Doctor (the latter especially highly regarded) will happily re-flash your ecu.

How the actual fuel is delivered be it by common rail, pumpe duse, or rotary pump is irrelevant..

ok, when I asked about my T2 and Patrol they didn't want to touch them with a barge pole.

Never asked the places you mention, but places local to my location.

I only said what I got told. 8O

thought they'd have done it, but no way I was told.

One of his boxes fitted, first unit went faulty when fitted to my t2 but was replaced with out question and fitted to my 3.0L patrol in june.

thanks Davemud

Dose this apply to OBDII only?
