It is adviseable to ensure all your transmission fluids are replaced at the correct intervals or before. (Gearbox, Transfer & Rear Diff)

i have a mistral ive changed the gearbox oil but my local motor factor never heard of lsd oil
what are the best oils to use in the transfer box and front and rear diff

If he truelly doesn't know what LSD (limited Slip Differential) Oil is I suggest you change your supplier.

Gearbox and Transfer, API GL4 - 3.5l + 2.3L

Front Diff, API GL5 - 1.3L

Rear Diff, API GL5 LS - 2.8L

but are they all the right oils as i thought the auto box was atf dexron is that not right??
also is the diff oils hypiod oil ?

Sorry yes thats the oil for the manual box, as I have a manual I don't think bout the auto.

API GL5 is a more modern way of denoting a hypoid typr oil.


Also those qtys are for te earlier gearboxes, later ones vary but can't remember which way.

sorry for sounding thick and i am really grateful for your help
with it being an auto is it just the auto box thats different i take it the front and rear diff and transfer box are as you said earlier?

Yes just the gearbox itself.

Though funnily enough ford spec ATF for the transfere and front diff where nissan spec trans oil. Used to use a gearbox builder who specced atf for competition boxes at the end of the day its gear oil just gear oil that will also put up with the strains of being used in a auto box.

GL4 is dirt cheap
GL5 (or hypoid in old money) is a bit more
LSD oil is quite a bit more expensive but well worth it, thse diffs are magic if looked after.


GL4 and 5 are standards, the old notation of hypoid didn't really mean a lot in technical terms.
