I am thinking of building an AT camping trailer like the ones someone posted on here a while ago. I am just in the design stage at the moment but there are a few things I am not sure of so it's over to you!

Q1 Is it legal in the UK to carry gas bottles on the outside of the vehicle ?

Q2 Would it be better to run the trailer electrics (cooler box etc) from a 2nd battery in the truck or in the trailer ?

Q3 I am hoping to keep it under 500 kilos so unbreaked ,Is this a good idea ?

Q1 should be locked inside a ventilated locker, vents at bottom.

Q2 use 12s or 13 pin run from car to charge second bstter and run fridge

N.B. second battery should be also in vented locker

Q3 can go upto 750kg no breaks.

Ask any thing else?

Where in uk you going to be based

Hi Zippy, When you say vented at bottom, do you mean underneath or bottom of the door?
To use it off road would it be the lighter the better or would a bit of weight help wit stability ?
We will be in North Lincolnshire :thumb2

I would just buy new one from ifor williams thats what i did.By the time youve bought all the bits there wont be much in it.Then 10 years later the iw will still be worth strong money the home made one wont be worth much at all.

Dont even think about buying a second hand iw on ebay ive seen loads of second hand ones sell for good bit more than they cost new

Should be through the floor.

As Rick says get a trailer, then make body, look at teardrop caravans / trailers

That might have been me:augie info on here http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/forums/42-Expedition-Trailers I would prob run a second battery in the trailer it's self if your wanting some lighting etc whilst cooking. I think you'll be hard pushed to build an off road camping trailer which would only weigh 500Kg & TBH I heavier one would prob be far more stable off road or on dirt tracks

That's the one. there are lots on here,big and small. I think i can keep it under the 750kg limit if i keep things light,lot of ally and less wood :thumbs
