Us3d the trailer earlier to dump my gf's old fridge down the tip, they've had it since 1985 lol

Twice today when switching the lights on the 15amp fuse for the instrument panel has blown leaving me with no dipped beam and instrument panel lights, when disconnecting the trailer electrics the fuse hasn't blown

How is this possible? Should I uprate the fuse? Or is that a bad idea as lets face it they are there for a reason to protect your wiring and instruments after all

Don't put a bigger fuse in....

Have you ever towed any other trailers, or that one before, and were they OK?

I would double check the trailer wiring first...

When I fitted my towbar, I did not need to upgrade any fuses, and not only does the car have extra side lights, the caravan has a lot more lights than a small trailer, so I would no think it is the fuse capacity.

Don't put a bigger fuse in as it's blowing for a reason & if you did fit a larger fuse you could ended up with melted wires or even a fire:augie Sounds as if there is poss a short, i'd check the sockets on your motor first & then look at the trailers wiring as it might be rubbing on something causing the short or there is a fault on the socket or even the lights

It's not a difficult job to rewire a trailer (probably easier to do that that trying to trace a short which could be intermittent anyway).
You'll need a suitable length of 7 core towing cable, er, and that's it!
If yu have a lighting board the cable goes inside that (pull off the push-on end covers).
It then splits to each of the lights - if you swap like for like wire colour, then do the same at the plug end, bobs your auntie - job done!

I would go straight to the trailer plug on the trailer.
Probably find a broken strand shorting, so best to re terminate All wires, but note position and colour first.:thumb2
