Done 'em !!!

Got a scissor type splitter from Halfrauds yesterday. Thanks to Zippy for pointing me in the right direction on that one, and Rustic for confirming my intended methodoligy.

Cheers fellas!

Splitter was easy to use. Cross with myself for wasting time and effort trying to beat it to death yesterday.

:doh

To anyone planning on doing track rods or ends.

DON'T BOTHER TRYING TO HAMMER THEM OUT !!!

Far easier and safer and quicker to spent £20ish on a scissor type splitter.

I spent three hours yesterday morning trying with a hammer. This afternoon, spent two and a half and replaced both sides. Would have been quicker but I had to take the angle grinder to the nut on yesterdays effort as due to the extreme beating it had the nut wouldn't come off!

Now to get it back to tyre fitters and get the tracking sorted.

Thanks again for all the advice and support, moral and other!

Well done and at least you got them sorted out.

By the way looks like your lock stops are ready for a blob of grease.

You're not wrong, but I have nothing sticky enough, just general purpose grease which won't last a minute.

I use general purpose grease and only need to do it twice a year. Smear a good blob on the curved metal section not the bolt head part. Been fine for me since 2002:thumb2

Waxoyl works very well too, some on bolt, some on receiver.

Bone dry look in light rust brown.

All looks a bit dry / rust coloured in need of some underbody treatment perhaps ?

Yup. See first post for acknowledgements!

Thanks for the info on that though bloke, much appreciated.

Just another note...

...when I fitted the track rods I used the workshop manual to get the torque settings, took them to 70Nm and then a little more to line up for the cotter pin.

All hail the workshop manual.
