Hi all !
Sorry my first post is a problem ...
So today I bought a cheap seemingly good condition 2000 SWB t2 as a tow car for plant trailers in the short term as we do up a new house, and long in the term to haul a couple of tones of wood chips to feed its boiler and keep us connected to the world in winter. House drive is too long and narrow to clear of snow or for delivery trucks ;)

Anyway to cut a long story short I'm guessing it was originally an auto as it's plated as :-
GVW 2510 kg
GTW 4210 kg
So that only leaves a towing weight of 1700 kg

No way near enough for our intended use :doh

Has anyone ever had any success up-plating a Terrano with VOSA?

And are there any other differences between auto and manual trucks?

It would be a shame to have to find Ted a new home so soon (yes we named him on the trip home over the m62). :lol

If it has been converted to a manual you shouldn't have any trouble with VOSA but they will prob charge you for a new chassis plate. The towing limit on a manual SWB or LWB is the same at 2800Kg:thumb2 The auto's were rated less as I think the auto box struggled to much with the higher loads

Can anyone confirm the Maunal t2's plated weights (from their vin plate) please?

Mine's a manual 2001 LWB so not sure if its relevant for you.

Its plated at 2580, 5380 which would give 2800 as expected.

Here is an image of the VIN plate off my 2001 2.7tdi LWB model (Manual Transmission).

Hope it helps...

do autos have different er diff ratios, thinkung anything else that could be deemed
to affect tow ability. recall the tow-weight is based on restarting on a 1:8 incline

I always thought autos were just de-rated to make sure folk didn't boil the box with lots of heavy towing? :nenau

The Y61 Trols are 3.5ton for a manual and 2.5ton for an auto but both will tow more than that.

Its so the auto box don't over heat.
I've towed a couple of tons with mine no problem.

It VERY punchy in 1st 2nd & 3rd it's almost impossible to accelerate smoothly solo below 30 mph.

70 mph is about 3k rpm in 5th. Makes for a great towcar so far. (Except the starter motor failed today).
