Hey all,

I'm just finishing a rebuild on my y60 and wondered what standard tow ball height is? (lets say to the top of the ball) as ive lifted suspension and body its going to be way out as it is now!
many thanks

Daz

at an educated guess around 13 inches to the top, i can check this out for you by measuring the height on a few of our cars and getting back to you - if someone doesn't do it before me :thumb2

I would have said it depends on your trailer a bit :D

well yes it does, but there is an 'average' height that most caravans sit at :augie

dropper plate on towbar if its to high, make it easily removable for off road jobs a good un!

Hello Guy's,

Thanks for the speedy replies :)

Plank - i agree, i thought there must be a 'standard' height of some sort

Jace - top idea mate, thats what i had in mind otherwise my lift efforts would be wasted by fitting a plough!!

Thanks again

Measurements.....

Both my terranos have the standard towbar which has two sets of holes for the actual ball, one about 1.5 inches above the other.

Both vehicles (which tow my twin axle Ifor Williams flatbed completely level) have got the ball bolted to the upper pair of holes.

The centre line of the upper holes is approx 16" off the deck, while the top of the ball is 20" off the deck.

Hope that helps....:thumb2

viewing the very helptul plans for a front ball hitch on this forum .( which i made and use frequently } the stated centre ball height is 17 inches . Hope this helps .

The EC Directive 94/20/EC states that the towball height should be between 350 and 420mm with the vehicle in the ‘laden’ condition (to the towball centre). Laden condition may have been defined (by the manufacturer) as either fully laden (the maximum technically permitted mass of the vehicle as shown in the vehicle handbook), or, conventionally laden (defined as 68.5kg per specified passenger seat and 6.5kg of luggage per specified passenger and located in the centre of the luggage storage area).

Glad to know theres yet another utterly pointless EU directive on such a mundane piece of b/s :doh :lol
