So cleaned out air filter housing and put in new filter..

So far so good. We went out for about 4 hours lane hunting.

Time will tell if problem us still hidden of not :thumb2

I'm with ya dude :thumb2

Still not a glimpse of engine management light either :nenau

Knackered maf as previously suggested would be eml right?
The MAF sensor readings are range checked during normal operation and if found to be outside of limits then s safe map or limp mode is implemented.
If however, the MAF output is either non-existant or +5V then MIL will come on.

Ahhh, so limp is no eml? And dead maf is eml?

more or less, yes.
The concept is that for a certain range of parameters, engine revs, road speed, temperature etc.... there will be an upper and lower acceptable limit value for the MAF, if the measured value falls out of this range then safe map is used.

safe map or limp mode will always reset by ign. off/on. But if the error persists will kick in again.

It just slowly died TBH & getting up hills got harder & harder as I had to keep dropping down gears:doh fitted a new one in the dealers carpark pulled away like I normally did & left 2 huge black tyre marks & fish tailed like mad up the road:lol

The maf on my last T2 died but never got the eml light on:augie
Thats sounds correct.
The MAF is still providing some kind of output although way off the mark. If the output from the MAF does not change at all then MIL will be on, same as when it's unplugged!

I haven't had any hill trouble. Been good as gold so far.

Good news, bet you are relieved pal.

I sure am. I spoke to rick about this and he's pretty darned sure my mud/filter issue is nothing to do with the running issue, more like a semi dodgy earth or relay, or possibly the ignition barrel.

If the symptoms re occur I will play with ign barrel.

It might pay to clean up & poss replace the earths with thicker wire as the earth leads are very thin:doh will prob replace all the earths to body, engine & chassis on mine later in the year with some nice thick cable

Quite a cool idea actually :thumb2
