Torsion bars adjustment

Just measured the clearance of my side steps to the ground & it's an inch lower at the front which has confirmed what I thought the torsion bar do need adjusting up:doh now not sure if I should lift the front by the full inch or just go up by 3/4" as I do carry some heay loads at times
It's been a good 5 years since I last adjusted a set of bars, once the top lock nut is loosened do you have to keep a spanner on the bottom nut as you tighten the bolt up ? going to clean up the treads tomorrow & oil them up & if I get time I might adjust them if not it'll be friday if it's not raining:augie

keep spanner on top and adjust from the bottom, remember lefty loosey righty tighty :lol

Cheers just couldn't remember if the lower nut was attached to the cross member or not:doh need to get it done before the snow hit which could be next week up here, must get the front droplinks done aswell as there knocking & crunching:doh

Well as you can tell I never got around to adjusting the torsion bars up:doh but hopefully the weather will hold & I can get it done on Sunday. Can anyone remember how many full turns of the nut will lift the front end up by an inch & what is the measurement from the bottom of the arch lip to the centre of the wheel as Nissan's way of measuring is such a pig to do:augie

just slacken the top bolt and leave in place as an indication on how far you've taken it up each side. I think its about 10mm for an inch.

i measured from bottom of wheel rim to top of wheel arch and left it about an inch lower at the front than the back

Exactly how I was told to do it and it worked a treat!!!!!!

the right way is measure from the lower link spindle bolt to the ground and the measure from the bottom of the steering stop to ground and take one off the other and the remainder should be 32mm or 1.26 inch if not adjust the torsion bar to suit . mine was 15mm

Cheers for the help guy's:thumb2 TBH i'm still a little rusty on things from not owning a T2 for a few years but it's starting to come back:augie The rain held off so was able to get the torsion bar adjusted up infact I over adjusted them at first:doh just set them to the factory spec as no fit fitted & it worked out the front is 1.25" lower than the rear measured from the bottom of the wheel arches to centre of the wheels:augie
As the front wheels were off the ground I thought I better check the wheel bearings as it's in for it's MOT tomorrow & there was a bit of play in the N/S/F so got that adjusted up but it took longer to do on this one with fixed hubs than it used to take on my last T2 with auto hubs as you could leave the wheel on
