Hi All,

Firstly, Merry Christmas to all!

I am considering buying myself a little Christmas gift in the form of a small tool set (I currently own NO tools lol).

So, before I buy a set (looking at cheap sets in Halfords at the mo), I wondered if anyone could give me a rough list of commonly needed tools to work on the Nissan Terrano II's engine i.e. spanner sizes etc!.

Thanks in advance!

Decent metric socket set and some spanners.....lots on the T2 between 12mm and 19/21mm. And when you can, get a decent trolley jack, the standard one is painful.

Everything at hand HERE

I bought one very much like it 4 yrs ago and it's the best toolkit I have ever owned and havn't broken anything in it OR lost anything as as long as the toolkit is full at the end of the day you just can't go wrong (Bit different when you have a toolbox as you wouldn't know if anything was missing until a couple of years down the road when it's half full.

a 150 piece set from halfords will do most things. usually around 150-200 quid but wait for the sale they often go to 99 quid all with lifetime guarantee on halfords

other than that
circlip pliers
pliers and good set of grips. id get mine from a plumbers shop or screwfix
a good set of screwdrivers or a screwdriver with multi head but again buy nice stuff
a hammer
and wire brushes small ones will be better than big clumsy ones (halfords)

It's got to be a small angle grinder, and eye protection, for cutting exhaust and other stubborn nuts and bolts.

A multi-meter with a 10 Amp range, continuity tester and voltage etc. Maplin often have these really cheap less than £5

If you use a trolley jack, also invest in axle stands. 3 tonne capacity should be great for both. Machine Mart often have VAT free days, sign up to their news letter or get on their email list.

A 1/2" torque wrench is a valuable tool as well.

A digital vernier gauge, often on offer at Aldi.

A 1/2" Drive allen key, 6mm A/F for undoing the auto hub bolts.
Use the torque wrench to prevent over tightening, as the garage sheared one of mine:doh

Finally the most important item, continued membership to this site for information and help when you need it. Even on Christmas Day :thumb2

Merry Christmas and best wishes for the New Year,
Rustic
