Timing what ?

Its a diesel so timing is fixed as there is no ignition spark that fires BTDC as with a petrol engine.

The camshaft / valve timing is really the only factor involved and that is not really adjustable you just get a small deterioration as the chains & sprockets wear.

Timing what ?

If no chains is yours a belt drive ? Same thing really just different choice of material to connect the crank to the camshaft ?

Timing what ?

Okay I give up is it direct gear driven between crank & camshaft never heard of one of those if it is ?

You dont have an NSU w a n k e l engine in there do you ?

PS Thats not an expletive its an design type !

2.7L engine is gear driven & the 3.0L engine is chain driven.

What timing

OK so only way of adjusting the valve timing would be some sort of vernier adjustment on the camshaft sprocket as per racing engines.

Not sure if there is such a thing as VVT on a diesel only seen that on petrol engines e.g brilliant Honda VVT engine range.

On Mercedes common rail diesel engines a lot of the engine management is done by way of software upgrades on the ECU and other such wisardry of engine management beyond the reach of home tinkering.

Peter has done a lot of work on ECUtalk recently just for the Nissan diesels.... I have done some testing for the ZD30 and it works well.

yep, it also works on the 2.7 as well. The ability to "adjust" things will come later.
