Right time to change front and rear springs and some nice ES9000 shocks.(standard ride height) as they are getting a touch tired 8O

My question to anyone who's done the job DO I NEED Spring Compressors? or will I get away with disconnecting the shocks and roll bar, doing one side at a time?

I'm not a lover of coil spring comps and the springs on a Trol are not small  I don't think the cheapo comps are up to the job.

Cheers

Spring compressors

I had my springs and shocks changed earlier this year at a local kwik-fit typey place. I watched and helped them do the job and I would highly recommend compressor springs.

Why not a lover of Coils? I'd do anything for Coils!

Think he meant not a lover of coil spring compressors - I know what he means some of the cheaper ones really don't seem up to the job when you're compressing a big spring - I've never had one fail though.

I'd have thought if you drop the shockand ARB mounts off you ought t be able to get enough droop for the springs to fall out without using a compressor - you can on the terrano easily.

I did mine on T2 without spring compressors.

The set I've got are ancient cheapo's and don't want to start job and find out there needed. I'll have a good like when it stops raining

Yes I love coils springs and hate torsion bars

Jocky, that'll be your big van wearing them out

If you need a decent pair of not too cheap spring compressor (hook over rather than hook on) youre welcome to borrow. You'll have to arrange collection though

Right changed springs on Patrol yesterday.

Rear springs are very easy to change

With trolley jack under rear axle
Disconnect shock lower mountings
Disconnect rear antiroll bar link and electronic stablizer link
Disconnect panhard rod from axle
unclip axle breather

Lower jack and the springs just drop out

keep your eyes on brake pipes and abs wiring just in case 8O

Front springs should have been the same but they were a pain as I couldn't get the top bump stop bolt out which sits inside the spring

So I removed shock lower mountings and dropped axle as far as brake pipes allowed and had to get the dreaded coil spring compressors out

Back together and its sitting nice

DIY spring change

Well done for that bud. -welldone-
Are the springs uprated and if so is it looking higher ?

Got springs from Milners

Uprated, but standard ride height

Its sitting a bit higher as the old springs were well past the use by date
