well started to fix the brakes today and its safe to say they are pretty shot all round.
apart from
new pads (i got some almost new discs in my spares)
new shoes

i want to do all the pipes too maybe new drums

questions are
do the auto adjusters come with the shoes
where to get the new pipes from

i think there is probably a good 5 years in the old girl so its worth spending out now i recon.
apart from the brakes its in very good condition

oh and the load sensor looks past it. i have a spare but is it really needed. what difference will it make without. i don't tow unless i really have to

Hi Extreme and others.

I've just freed a seized starboard handbrake cable so now BOTH aft brakes actually work when the handbrake anchor is set! It was seized where the lower support bracket had been cramped on to the cable compressing it and causing friction and seizing at that point. So if anyone has a dodgy handbrake, after checking the shoes and adjustment and the mechanics inside the drum, don't forget to check if the cable is actually sliding inside the outer casing when the handbrake is applied.

Like Extreme, I noticed that my load compensator and connecting pipes aren't looking too healthy. If anyone has done a repair/replacement recently any advice would be welcome.

Regards CL.

i changed the pipes on my truck, and to make life easier i cut a hole in the rear floor above the comp valve to allow access to the top pipe and there is a bleed nipple on top and you will need to be able loosen the nipple to bleed brakes, after i made a plate to cover hole and screwed it dowm with mastic, job done. :clap

just remembered there is a 3 way splitter block there aswell.

anyone know what pipe is needed sizes , quantities .what size the fittings are male and female

any news on the adjusters

T Piece is built into the rear flexi.

Threads are all metric 10 x 1mm

Flares are the reverse to normal (ie single concave flare on male not double flare as usual), which will mean some cheaper flaring kits may not be able to do them properly.

thanks guys

well a friend got one made for me in a garage as a favor to fix mine in emergency....

i had hoped to do it myself , but ill look into getting them made up in advance. then just fit them then
possibly work out cheeper in the end. and loads quicker

really need an answer on the load sensor can i loose it altogether ?

and auto adjusters where to get them. or do they come with the shoes?

you should be able to hire a pipe flaring set from a decent tool hire firm colin, i know "hss" do them, well our local one does. :thumb2

Might be worth checking nissan for pre shaped ones they're a lot neater and will probably out last the rest of the vehicle now. If not go for cunifer over copper pipe. Other alternative is to use stainless steel overbraided stuff right through, a bit expensive but well trick.
