noticed intermitant issue with throttle, feels to be stiff, doesnt make revs,

setting off feels like stalling as not getting power needed.

once running revs build slowly then turbo kicks in and better ti change gear again
below turbo feels 'strangled'

was thinking fly by wire etc, so maybe computer ecu issue, so switched off an d on
and was little better, repeated and seemed to clear, can only do this stationary
of course.

first time happened few weeks ago wondered if oem mat was in way of peddle
travel but cant see it now as wouldnt effect throttle in same way as a mat under
a clutch pedal might restrict peddle travel.

I'm sure i've read on here (could be wrong) someone had a build up of fluff & muck on the contacts inside the the fly by wire throttle pedal (TPS) which was causing problems. One thing i've noticed but it could just be me, my MK4 having the later 3L maf doesn't seem as quick as my old MK2 from what I can remember but that was a SWB

Update

my engineer has had car for 2 days and cannot replicate the intermitant fault
which is just about typical.

Has queried replacement pedal thing and independent dealer cannot source
and Nissan are saying £295+vat, plus fitting, but he isnt happy at committing
that sort of cash on something cannot prove.

Has checked faults but nothing related thrown, and certainly hasnt caused
engine light to come on at all.

Any one have a spare? reckon its worse when cold, but usually clears if
switch off and on once or twice.

Guess this is why folks sell otherwise clean cars as sick of trying to resolve.

Perhaps I should get another truck and make a good one from the two.

I have a 98 one here for a Bosch pump, if it is any good to you but fear it will not as yours is later, I would be removing it and checking for signs of wear/corrosion etc, failing that give cncfabs a buzz, Rick

Well, you are not crazy, I have had this problem several times (a while ago)

Throttle is very very stiff, and feels limited to 10% movement! then it frees off! And on some occasions pedal just just feel a tad more resistant than usual? I did also attempt to spray mine a long time ago, just sprayed up in there as best I could.

Haven't had the problem in ages.

Some never actually found out what it was but had the same thought as you and gave it a good spraying. :thumb2

thanks alex,

can sort of live it but will be no fun if tin tent on back

seen some on ebay but were for prtrol, typical as in 70 quid range.

picked it up and of course still behaving its self, despite 2 degree C on temp.

Not even charged me for time but reckons its a Bosch, so thinking if
all TDi that were Bosch after Hitachi didnt change then might be worth trying one.

presuming fly by wire is common term for tid onwards?

Check with Rick on this, there is any easy way to tell a bosch set up, i believe its your MAF on the airbox :nenau

do confirm this though:)

Bosch maff will have Bosch pump as I understand the two aren't compatible as hitachi maff has different amount of wires so I'm told

The Bosch MAF has a 5 pin connector with 4 wires.
The Hitachi MAF has only 3 wires, not sure about the connector.

If its any use I have a spare pedal assy that i got this year from ginge when he was breaking a 2002 ex police motor. Dont know how to tell deffirence in types. I'm Going away for weekend but drop me a text and we can let you take it to try next week at least it might rule out or confirm tps.

if that falls through, I've just spoken to James and he is pretty sure he has one from a 2002 that will be good for you, £70 if you want it

2002 was a changeover year for lots of things inc throttle pedal the latest ones were plastic and made in one peice as apposed to the earlier one that had separate pedal and switch

Might be a fair shout, I'll get some pics over at some point so we can confirm if it's the right one or not
