hi guys wonder if you got any sugestions
interior mirror keeps fall ing off i have tried the double sided pads from halfords they last about a month and start dropping off.

what do windscreen replacement companies use as they seem to be good at sticking?

now you can see why i didnt put it as a sticky lol

idealy the window needs cleaning first with a good solvent (not white spirits) tipes thiunners is pretty good, clean and slightly roughen the back of the mirror mountig point, attatch one side of th pad too it and then warm it on the side of the kettle!

Many windscreen fittrs also warm the screen with a flame form a lighter!

then press together firmly

if you pop into your a local winscreen fiting company and ask nicley they may give you a few tipos and even a sticky pad, i often scrounge them this way!

alternatively just chuck the mirror under the seats and forget about it

Meths is a good solvent for this use, also the alcohol wipes in first aid kits.

isopropyl alcohol, or even the solvent for cleaning upvc windows (my favourite), and surgical spirits is another thats not too bad!

Some of the alcohol wipes in first aid kits will also have an antiseptic and emollient in them, the "proper" alco-wipes that are used before blood taking are better.

 But I've never really managed to get an original rear view miror to stick again, on the cars I've had with this problem I've usually ended up with a suction cup rear view, naff, but legal.

i drive a transit with no rear view mirror at all day most days and find when i am in a car i am more comfortable flicking the rear view mirror to face the ceiling and relying on the side irrors, with side mirros now an mot thing, i dont see why we have to have a rear view mirror at all surely one or the other would do?

i was taught in the army and passed my test in vehicles without interior mirror
but when the mrs drives it then she prefers the interior jobby

Think I've still got a tube of Sicaflex left, if it's still OK your welcome to try it in May Tony. Trouble is it's kind of perminant on the mirror base I should think.

I'm sure I replaced a rear view mirror which came supplied with a glue and a wire mesh.

You glued the window, then added the wire mesh and then pushed the mirror fixture onto that (with some more glue I think).

Anyway I seem to recall that it worked really well. The best replacement rear view mirror fixture I'd ever had.

I've no idea the make of it or who supplied it. Sorry.

MM.

stick your mirror on

hi there what ever you do don't use superglue or any thing like that as being a w/s fitter at one time it will most likely crack it as it won't expand or contract when the glass gets hot or cold or you will pull the mirror off when you move it and have a big chunk of glass missing from your windscreen and stuck on the back of your mirror boss, if you know of a local autoglass branch they use a special spray and glue like a two part kit it takes seconds to do as it acts very quickly just pop in and tell them your mirror has fallen off and i'm sure they will stick it back on for you. Or I can give you the make and type of spray activator and glue you require to do the job yourself.
Hope this helps.........B.J
