Has any one fitted a cool running stat or is it best to stick with the standard one as mine is sticking so time for newun just wondered which way to go

stick to original one unless you are in constant hot weather.

I stuck an 88 degree in wifes truck, gets nice n toasty warm now. Driving the truck around in summer hasn't caused a problem but I honestly think if I were to do a lot of towing I'd go back to an 82 degree version.

stick with the 88 it is your motors design temperature, and the rad and fan can easily dissipate the heat even towing slow uphill but it is important that when the gauge starts to climb that you can hear the roar of the fan as it cuts in, if no roar and temp continues to climb, then stop and run engine at fast idle to cool it down, this would indicate the viscous fan has failed, I know of know other way to test it Rick

No viscous bud as changed to electric and have temp guage on return of rad and pulling up hill on its own it was hitting 90degrees so I'm worried when I start towing its gonna get hotter so doing simple things like changing thermostat first then if that dont help swap rad as mine could be partially blocked. As these temps seem a little high when pulling its own weight up hill

my t2 constantly tows in dales hills and no problem with temp, yes a little movement on gauge but long drags seem to make no difference.
i went to a rally in 4 convoy and there was a long hill, when we got to site a honda, pajero and ford motor home all went high but mine stayed ok.they all thought they might have to stop to cool down but other side they cooled.

if the return to the rad is hitting 90 then either your fan is not big enough or your rad is part blocked, Rick

Ok bud thanks I did wonder as it was hitting this temp doing 60mph up hill so surely fan shouldn't come on when moving

Silly question but any idea how much water the rad hold so I can check to see if it is blocked

Zac why you replying to a 3 year old post? Rick
I thought I'd deleted it lmao!!!!

I was having a search earlier to refresh my memory of what the 2 different temperature variants were before purchasing and took your advice above to go for the 88 degree.

I replied in the wrong tab as I had multiple threads open at once [emoji38]

Sorry Rick
