So me and Blocky were chatting on the Salisbury meet about the fact that we've never seen a 3 litre SWB Automatic, EVER, and there's never any up for sale that I've ever seen. Is anyone aware of one on here?

If Nissan didn't make them, why? is this literally as easy as it being down to the length of the actual gearbox or the propshafts etc.

If Nissan haven't done it, I'd like to attempt it and make a bloody good go of making it as OEM as possible, no real reason why other than for the fact that it's never been done and make a bit of cash on a one off build spec :nenau

I mean come on guys, think about it.......

A SWB 3.0 Auto Terrano, that's almost a Patrol :hide:

Maybe someone with a LWB Auto 3 litre could take some underside pictures of the gearbox and other related ancillaries and measure any reference points?

Blocky? :augie

Will get some photos when its next up on the ramp but I have a few 'approximately' measurements. Just need to find someone with a swb to compare :augie
The gearbox from bell housing face to prop 1150mm
Prop length 1000mm
Rear of the front cross member lip edge to centre of the rear cross member is 505mm
No other gearbox mounting.
From the back of the transfer box to the torsion bar cross brace is 40mm

It's a big lump of a box

interesting, cant say seen one or looked, as tend to always want a 7seater.

that said wouldnt mind swb as well.

wonder if is down to length of box, seem to recall similar issues with swb aka 90
defenders.

can you get auto swb trols? presume as bigger/longer to start with, its a yes?

My Trol is a shorty auto and the box is just a HD version of the Terrano one so the box length shouldn't be an issue. From memory of my last laning trip the Trol's wheelbase actually looked slightly less than Zac's swb Terrano...

I don't think Nissan produced swb autos at all for the UK market (my Trol is a Jap import).

Well well well. That looks like a nice motor.
I can't imagine there's a difference in gearbox's.

Good Idea

Proud owner of a 52 plate 3.0 SWB, 70000 miles. This may cure my intermittent clutch problems. Very interested, added to next years "Retirement things to give it a go list".:thumbs
