I've got 2 plugs here, the one on the left is a 2.7TD plug and is a Lucas LP032, the one on the right is a 2.7TDi plug and is a Lucas LP079.

Asd you can see there is very little difference between them, the thread is the same pitch and length, only difference I can see is that the TD ones will go deeper into the engine which can only be a good thing should there be enough clearance underneath, will the tip foul the internals of the engine?

The bonus is as well that the TD ones are cheaper, and are also compatible with the 2.3 litre Serena and Vanette Cargo too looking at a chart :clap

Is it possible to add washers to the longer one so it doesn't sit in as far, if needed?:nenau

Good shout, depends on how much room you have to play with I suppose, I'll be in the engine bay tonight so I'll take a butchers :naughty

Can't do that, they don't seat on the upper thread, but on the face an inch up from the tip.

The resistance could be different, as they are driven in a different way.
The Td gets full power at start up, then drop to approx half power through a BIG dropper resistor lol, so full power or approx half, however, the Tdi are pulsed after start up so I guess can be pulsed at different rates.

Are you sure that you have a genuine Tdi glow plug, and not one fitted incorrectly from a Td as I thought they were not compatible.

I have two good ones I'll measure the resistance in them both and find out. I didn't know there was a difference in glow plug behaviour on the TD & TDI buy surely the behaviour you mention can't be controlled by the plug as in essence it's just a dumb heater?? I'll be putting the TD ones in my car tonight anyway and I will report back with thorough findings :naughty

Yes, let us know how you get on. After all there's quite a difference in price especially when buying four.

I think, that the resistance of the Tdi ones will be less than the Td ones, if I am right, I will attempt to explain why.

Didn't get chance to measure the resistance last night but I have fixed my starting problem thankfully.

A while ago the plug to my glow plug relay had rotted and gone green and crusty, calcification :nenau I had to chop the plug off and did a good job of that repair, the problem I had was I didn't have another relay to replace the original as the metal that had calcified on the plug had also damaged the male spade connections inside the relay so sometimes you have to wiggle the wire for the glow plugs to work first thing in the day.

I've swapped the relay now and modified the bracket it came on, I've now waterproofed it and mounted it inside the engine bay rather than the void in the wing which was why it had rusted in the first place getting splatted by water, salt and mud in the wheel arch :doh
