Good morning all, I just need a little confirmation before I take the next step.
Recently I removed the corroded damper pipe from the clutch and blanked it off, however since doing that the pedal pressure seems to drop, I only have to pump the pedal twice with the slave cylinder bleed nipple open and it comes back to where it should be.

So my question is should I replace the slave cylinder?

Cheers
Stephen

how did you blank it? Have you been under to see if it's leaking?

Hi, thanks for the reply.

It was blanked off with a comprssion joint on the end of a small piece of pipe.
I have had a look underneath and all appears to be dry, the slave cylinder and pipe.

Just realised on my first post it should have said master cylinder not slave...sorry

Check the flexi pipe while you're there too , they tend to burst and/or go squigy

That too seems dry with no signs of leakage...
It just seems strange that I pump it twice with the master cylinder nipple open and it recties it, I was thinking that it must be drawing air in somehow...

If the air is at the bottom, e.g. you are only having to do a couple of pumps to get it out, I would have thought that the air is getting in down there somewhere, rather than the top, but that is just a guess.

My flexible pipe looked perfect, but it turned out to have split on the inside, rather than the outer covering, so was making bubbles between the inner and outer layers, and until it split properly, you could not see a leak. When I took it off, you could then see if you looked very closely where the crimp goes over the bottom union that there was in fact some in there, and I think it was dripping straight off of there onto the road, as the slave cylinder was completely dry the first time I looked.

One thing to look for on the Master cylinder, is to put your fingers up under the dash where the peddle joins the cylinder, and see if you can feel and fluid up there, as in the past on other cars, that has always been my first clue to a Master cylinder going.

Oh and while I think of it, on a lot of Master cylinders, the reservoir is only a push fit, and has a rubber O ring to make the seal, I had one sucking air in there, as I had knocked it when working under the bonnet, and it was not seated properly.

Hi guys, quick update.

Well i bought a slave cylinder and the flexi pipe, fitted them today, piece of cake, bled the system and all seems well.

I have to say the pedal feels much better too now.

Thanks for all of the help and advice
