I haven't posted for a while but I had to log in and post this.....
M.O.T. time came around with its alarming regularity...I always put my vehicles through their M.O.T's at a dedicated testing station....cos thats all they do...test the car...they dont repair cars so there is less chance that ther'e gonna tell me that it needs this done or that done to generate work for themselves....least thats what I reckon.
Anyway...it failed on two issues.
1.Worn lower wishbone bushes...
2. Rotten...and I mean rotten offside inner front wing..started off the size of a 10p piece and
ended up with a hole 10 inches long by 5/6 inches wide...the rot went all the way back
to the bulkhead just under the brake servo unit.
Not having welding skills or a nice ramp to raise the car to get at the wishbones comfortably I put it into a local garage to get the work done....£400 lighter I took it back to the m.o.t station for its retest....passed no problem...hurray I thought we will be able to tow the caravan the 200 miles north to our pre booked site in Sutherland after all.Wifey and kids getting more excited with each passing day as our departure date (25th July) gets ever closer.
Driving home from the m.o.t. station I suddenly lost all power...put foot down and barely any power at all....oooer...I thought...engine warning light illuminates on the dash...this don't look good. I then started to quickly go over in my mind all the things it could be that I had read about on this fatastic website. The most obvious culprit according to several posts that I have read was the MAF sensor.
Limped the few miles home and whipped out the MAF.Got hold of me trusty magnifying glass and had a butchers at the 2 tiny wires in the MAF...they looked filthy.Sped off in wifey's run about to local accessory place and purchased some electrical contact cleaner.
Liberally sprayed the stuff at the little wires...waited a few minutes until dry..refitted the MAF...turned the key....the engine warning light did not come on...hurray..took it for a blast round the block....all power had returned...sorted.
Thank you...thank you...thank you...from me the wife and the kids..to everyone who has ever shared their experiences on the site as far as problems with our trucks are concerned...once again....you came up trumps for me....cheers
